Breaking News: Keith Kutska, Dies at 74 Months After Release, Wisconsin Mourns Last Paroled Member of ‘Monfils Six

Wisconsin – Keith Kutska, one of six men convicted in the high-profile 1992 killing of Tom Monfils in Green Bay, has died at the age of 74, according to an obituary released this week.

The notice states Kutska died February 24 while traveling in Arizona. His death comes roughly six months after his release from prison in Prairie du Chien, where records show he was granted parole in August 2023.

Kutska was the final member of the group known as the “Monfils Six” to secure parole. He and five coworkers were convicted in 1995 in connection with Monfils’ death at a paper mill. Prosecutors alleged Monfils had reported Kutska for theft before his body was discovered in a pulp vat with a weight attached.

All six men maintained their innocence for decades, and the case has long drawn scrutiny from legal advocates who questioned aspects of the investigation and trial. The Wisconsin parole board said Kutska’s release was based on factors including his lengthy incarceration and record of good behavior. The original trial judge also supported parole.

A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date as debate over the controversial case continues to linger.
