Rudy Giuliani Recovering After Highway Crash in New Hampshire, Involving Domestic Violence Intervention

Rudy Giuliani Recovering After Highway Crash in New Hampshire; Injuries Include Fractured Vertebra

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is recovering in hospital after being seriously injured in a car crash in New Hampshire on Saturday evening. The 81-year-old sustained a fractured vertebra and multiple cuts and bruises when his vehicle was struck from behind at high speed.

The incident occurred shortly after Giuliani had pulled over to help a woman who flagged him down on the highway. According to his spokesman and head of security, Michael Ragusa, the woman was a victim of domestic violence. Giuliani called 911, remained with her until officers arrived, and then continued his journey before the collision took place.

Medical Condition

Giuliani was taken to a Manchester-area hospital where doctors confirmed a fractured thoracic vertebra as well as injuries to his left arm and lower leg. He is expected to remain under observation for several days and will need to wear a back brace during recovery. His longtime associate and business partner, Dr. Maria Ryan, said he is undergoing additional testing but remains stable.

Ragusa described Giuliani’s outlook as positive despite the injuries. “The mayor is in great spirits. He’s tough—he survived 9/11, and he’s determined to recover from this as well,” he told reporters.

Family Response

Giuliani’s son, Andrew, shared a message of gratitude on X (formerly Twitter): “Thank you to all the people that have reached out since learning the news about my Father. Your prayers mean the world. As a son, I can tell you I’m honored to have a Dad that I can call the toughest SOB I’ve ever seen.”

Broader Context

The crash underscores two urgent issues: the dangers of high-speed collisions and the ongoing challenge of domestic violence across the United States. Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows that rear-end collisions account for nearly one-third of all traffic accidents nationwide. Meanwhile, the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence reports that more than 10 million Americans experience domestic abuse each year.

Giuliani’s intervention highlights how bystanders can play a role in ensuring victims get immediate help. Experts, however, stress the importance of contacting authorities quickly to ensure safety for everyone involved.

What’s Next

Local authorities have not yet released details about the driver who struck Giuliani’s vehicle or whether charges will be filed. Investigations into the crash remain ongoing.

For now, Giuliani’s focus will be on his recovery. His family and team have expressed gratitude for the medical staff treating him and for the messages of support they have received nationwide.
