The Seacoast and Rochester communities are coming together to grieve the loss of Colleen Elizabeth Courtovich Joy, a 33-year-old New Hampshire native whose life touched coworkers, classmates, and longtime friends. Colleen passed away on November 15, 2025, prompting an outpouring of tributes that highlight her generosity, humor, and the unmistakable energy she brought to every space.
Colleen spent her childhood in Stratham and graduated from Exeter High School in 2010 before pursuing cosmetology at Empire Beauty School, where she studied from 2012 to 2013. She later worked at Ulta Beauty and Sport Clips Haircuts, blending her passion for beauty with her natural talent for encouraging and uplifting others. In recent years, she built a career as an Operations Manager at The CCS Companies, where colleagues say she was known for her reliability, empathy, and ability to make difficult days easier for those around her.
Friends describe Colleen as someone who valued connection deeply. One of her closest companions shared a moving tribute on Facebook, recalling the “getting ready room,” weekend adventures, and the excitement Colleen poured into planning girlfriend trips. “She became my hype girl, my secret keeper, my safe space,” the friend wrote. “Her laughter and honesty made me feel seen in ways I’ll never forget.”
Another friend, Nelle Rose, reflected on their years of late-night talks and weekly hangouts, saying, “Even when life pulled us in different directions, nothing ever changed the love I had for you. I hope you’re finally at peace.”
Those who knew her say Colleen’s compassion extended far beyond her social circle. She adored animals, especially her own pets, and spent this past summer finding moments of peace in her backyard pool as she coped with physical pain. Her family and friends have encouraged donations to the NHSPCA or Seacoast Mental Health, honoring two causes that reflect her values—care for animals and support for emotional well-being.
Her passing has sparked heartfelt discussions across the Seacoast community about the importance of friendship, mental health, and staying connected in a fast-paced world. As tributes continue to be shared, one theme remains constant: Colleen’s presence was a source of comfort, joy, and understanding for those fortunate enough to know her.
She is remembered not only for the light she shared but for the lives she brightened—one conversation, one laugh, and one act of kindness at a time.
