Lydia Kaiser: GoFundMe to Help Annunciation Student Injured Protecting Classmate During School Mass

A tragic act of violence at Annunciation School on August 27 has left the community shaken but united in prayer and support. Among the injured was student Lydia Kaiser, who suffered severe injuries while protecting a younger child during the first Mass of the school year.

Witnesses say Lydia instinctively shielded her “little buddy” in the chaos, a selfless act that underscored her courage even in the face of danger. Her father, Harry Kaiser, the school’s long-serving and much-loved gym teacher, was also present. According to accounts shared by parishioners, he helped secure the room, calmed frightened students, and stayed with them until families were reunited—even as his daughter was rushed into emergency surgery.

Community leaders describe Lydia and her father as “two heroes in our midst.” Parish officials confirmed that Lydia remains in very serious condition following a complex surgery, and doctors continue to monitor her closely.

“This family embodies the spirit of Annunciation—courage, sacrifice, and love,” one school parent said. “They have given so much to our children, and now it’s our turn to lift them up.”

The violence has left lasting wounds beyond the physical injuries. School counselors and local faith leaders have been providing trauma support for students and families. Experts note that community-wide healing is crucial after such events, especially for children who witnessed violence in a sacred setting.

Fundraising efforts are now underway to assist the Kaiser family with mounting medical bills, long-term care, counseling, and lost income. Organizers stress that every contribution will go directly to the family.

The attack has reignited conversations about school safety and community resilience, with parents, educators, and faith leaders calling for renewed efforts to protect students in places traditionally seen as safe havens.

For now, the community continues to rally around Lydia, Harry, and all those affected. Vigils, prayer services, and support drives are being organized in the coming days.

“Please keep Lydia, her family, and all the students and teachers touched by this tragedy in your prayers,” the school said in a statement. “We are grateful for the bravery of our students, staff, first responders, and all who stepped in to help.”
