Seaford, Delaware – The community of Seaford, Delaware, is mourning the loss of Robert Taylor, a devoted family man, veteran, and volunteer whose life embodied dedication, humor, and community spirit. Taylor passed away peacefully at home on November 4, 2025, at the age of 85, surrounded by his family.
Born in Seaford on March 25, 1940, Taylor spent his life deeply rooted in the same community that helped shape him. A member of the U.S. Army Reserves, he went on to work for the City of Seaford Electric Department before retiring from the Delaware Electric Cooperative — a career marked by reliability and service to others.
A Lifetime of Service and Community Involvement
Robert Taylor’s influence stretched far beyond his professional life. He was instrumental in developing local youth programs, volunteering for over 50 years with Nanticoke Little League and serving as a longtime volunteer at the Little League World Series in Roxana, Delaware. He also played a key role in bringing the Girls World Series Softball Tournament to Sussex County, leaving a lasting mark on youth sports in the region.
His love for mentoring extended to faith-based initiatives as well. Taylor was a founding member of Nanticoke Young Life, a Christian outreach program for local youth. Friends and family say he believed in creating opportunities for young people to grow — both on and off the field.
“Robert had a heart for community and a quiet strength that made everyone around him better,” said a longtime Seaford resident. “He gave his time, his energy, and his kindness without ever expecting anything in return.”
A Man of Humor, Heart, and Routine
Those who knew Taylor also remember his humor and love of simple pleasures. A self-proclaimed “greatest contributor” at his local Dunkin’ Donuts, he was known for his wit and warm presence. He was the last surviving member of his ROMEO group (Retired Old Men Eating Out) — a circle of friends who gathered regularly to share stories and laughter.
An avid bowler, Taylor spent years competing in leagues at Seaford Bowling Lanes, even representing Delaware in the International Family Bowling Tournament in Texas with his grandson — a proud moment for both generations.
Family and Legacy
Taylor was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Lee Short Taylor, and his parents, Maud and Lloyd Taylor. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who remember him as a source of wisdom, humor, and love.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Cranston Funeral Home in Seaford, with visitation beginning the evening before. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery.
As Seaford bids farewell to one of its most dedicated residents, Robert Taylor’s memory lives on — in the community he helped build, the young lives he mentored, and the laughter he shared over coffee and bowling lanes.
