House Fire on Indianapolis’ East Side, Thanksgiving Morning and Shooting: Leaves Two Dead

Indianapolis’ east side – A disturbing sequence of events on Thanksgiving morning has left two people dead on Indianapolis’ east side, after emergency crews responding to a house fire discovered a shooting at the same location. Firefighters were first called to a residence near North Audubon Road, close to 38th Street and Arlington Avenue, for reports of a possible fire with people trapped inside.

As firefighters arrived, police received a separate alert about a shooting at the same address. Officers found a man and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim died at the scene, while the other was transported to the hospital in critical condition but later died, authorities confirmed.

Investigators say it is still too early to determine whether the fire and the shooting are connected. Detectives from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and fire investigators are jointly reviewing evidence, a process officials say may take time due to the complexity of overlapping emergency scenes.

Incidents involving simultaneous fires and shootings are unusual, according to public-safety analysts, and often require coordinated investigation across agencies. Neighbors in the area reported waking to sirens and described the situation as “chaotic” and “heartbreaking,” particularly on a holiday morning meant for family gatherings.

Officials have not yet released the victims’ names. More information is expected as authorities continue to piece together what happened and why.
