The community of Saddle River, New Jersey, is grieving the death of Jack Inserra, a respected firefighter, business owner, and beloved friend whose life of service touched countless people across Bergen County. His passing, announced this week by the Saddle River Fire Department, has left friends, family, and fellow firefighters heartbroken.
“Jack was the kind of man who made the world feel brighter,” wrote family friend Phil Ross in an emotional tribute. “When he entered a room, you knew it—his smile, his hug, his warmth. He just made you feel good.”
A Legacy of Service and Dedication
For more than two decades, Inserra proudly served as both Firefighter and Association Ex-President of the Saddle River Fire Department. Known for his dedication, he also led the department’s annual winter coat drive, ensuring local families in need had warmth during the cold months.
In a public statement, the department wrote:
“Jack proudly served the Saddle River Fire Department for over 20 years, dedicating himself to the department and the community with unwavering commitment and pride. Please keep our brother Jack and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
A Life Larger Than Life
Outside of his service, Jack was a devoted father to Jack Jr., of whom he was immensely proud, and a loving fiancé excited about the future he was building. Friends describe him as a gregarious, loyal man who poured his heart into everything he did—his work, his relationships, and his community.
“He loved life and made sure everyone around him did too,” said one longtime friend. “Jack had this rare ability to lift people up, even on their worst days.”
Remembering a True Community Hero
As tributes continue to pour in from neighbors, fellow firefighters, and local business owners, Saddle River reflects on the life of a man who embodied compassion and service.
The Fire Department ended its tribute with words that now echo across the community:
“Rest easy, brother — we’ll take it from here.”
Jack Inserra’s legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the community he helped strengthen, and the warmth he brought to everyone who knew him.
